Every installation trains and employs local young people
Learning to Earn builds paid technical work into every contract, so the skills and the jobs stay in the community long after the equipment arrives.
7–10%
of students in Mozambique reach university
Around 90% of young people have no specialised professional path
At the same time, rural sites lack trained local people to support the technology deployed there, and skills stay concentrated in the cities. Learning to Earn tackles both at once.
Learning to Earn
From trainee to local maintenance agent
Instead of relying on imported technical staff, we embed vocational training in the delivery of every contract.
- 1
Recruit
Together with the donors who fund each programme, we recruit youth teams near the sites we serve.
- 2
Train
Trainees learn solar PV installation, network troubleshooting and hardware upkeep on real projects.
- 3
Employ
Trained technicians become paid local maintenance agents. Our aim is a local team in each of the 11 provinces.

Our commitments
Four commitments behind every project
Green technology
Climate-friendly technology and green energy that protect the environment, with responsible e-waste disposal built into programme design.
Digital & gender inclusion
Digital inclusion and youth employment with gender-balanced, equal opportunities in hiring, training and project leadership.
Community expansion
Growing the number of connected schools and rural communities across the region.
Local sustainability
Building local technical capacity that keeps projects running for the long term.
Our goals for 2028
What we aim to achieve by 2028
These are our first targets, built around the measures we will report on: sites connected, young people trained, and women in our workforce.
These are targets, not results. We are a new company, and we will report our progress against them.
